In 2006, the median commuting distance to work in Kitchener was 5.8 kilometers. This was 23.7 per cent lower than the national average of 7.6 km and 33.3 per cent lower than the provincial average of 8.7 km. Median commuting distance was up 3.6 per cent from the 2001 figure.

With 4.8 percent of workers using public transportation to get to work in 2006, the percentage of workers in Kitchener using public transportation was 56.6 per cent lower than the national public transportation utilization rate (11.0) and 63.0 per cent lower than the provincial rate (12.9).
